CGGC INTERNATIONAL LTD Secures Contract for Kuwait Housing Project

Recently, the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) in Kuwait announced the awarding of a contract for the South Saad Al-Abdullah housing project to China’s CGGC INTERNATIONAL LTD. The contract is valued at 345 million Kuwaiti Dinars, approximately 1.12 billion US dollars. A total of 10 companies participated in the bidding process, with CGGC INTERNATIONAL LTD submitting the lowest bid that also met the technical requirements. The project, situated in Jahra Province, covers an area of approximately 6,400 hectares and includes five residential districts.

In April 2022, Abdulwahab Al-Rasheed, Kuwait’s Minister of Finance and State Minister for Economic Affairs and Investment, announced that the Kuwaiti government had approved funding for the South Saad Al-Abdullah project and the Souq Al-Mubarakiya redevelopment project in the fiscal year 2022-2023.

The South Saad Al-Abdullah project has a total cost of 2.1 billion Kuwaiti Dinars, approximately 6.8 billion US dollars, and has been included in the draft bill linked to the budgets of various state departments for the fiscal year 2022-2023. This bill is still pending approval by the National Assembly.

In 2017, CGGC INTERNATIONAL LTD signed a contract for the second phase of the South al-Mutlaa infrastructure construction project. This project, a key civil engineering endeavor under the backdrop of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Kuwait’s Vision 2035 development plan, aims to address housing issues for the local population of 400,000 residents.

The project represents the first municipal engineering project in the region built with the concept of a “scientifically green and sponge city.” It is planned to be constructed in three phases, with CGGC INTERNATIONAL LTD undertaking the second phase of the project with a contract value of 216 million Kuwaiti Dinars, approximately 488.1 million Chinese Yuan. This phase includes tasks such as site leveling, utility networks, roads, substations, and rainwater collection systems spread across 28 square kilometers in eight different zones.
